Neurodevelopmental Disorders Associated with Chromosome 15
نویسنده
چکیده
Chromosome 15 is a focus of increasing interest to both psyc hiatry and neurology. Several neurodevelopmental disorders are geneticall y associated with this autosome, including Prader-Willi syndrome, Angelma n syndrome, Dyslexia, Autism, Hyperlexia, Ring 15 Chromosome syndrome, and Trisomy 15 syndrome. This report provides a review of the molecular biology of chromosome 15 and these associated disorders.

Homologous pairing of 15q11-13 imprinted domains in brain is developmentally regulated but deficient in Rett and autism samples.
Rett syndrome (RTT), caused by mutations in MECP2 (encoding methyl CpG binding protein 2), and Angelman syndrome (AS), caused by maternal deficiency of chromosome 15q11-13, are autism-spectrum neurodevelopmental disorders. MeCP2 is a transcriptional repressor of methylated genes, but MECP2 mutation does not directly affect the imprinted expression of genes within 15q11-13. We tested a potential...

Having a child with neurodevelopmental disorders can influence the mothers’ cognitive, psychological and emotional processes that appropriate psychological therapies should be employed to decrease these damages. Therefore the present study was carried out aiming to investigate the effectiveness of group reality therapy on the stress and mental burden of the mothers of the children with neurodev...

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) and Angelman syndrome (AS) are neurodevelopmental disorders caused by loss of expression of imprinted genes from the 15q11-q13 region. They arise from similar defects in the region but differ in parent of origin. There are two recognized typical 15q11-q13 deletions depending on size and several diagnostic assays are available but each has limitations. We evaluated th...
متن کاملChromosomal Abnormalities in Regions 8q22 and 13q32 Associated with Different Disorders in an Iranian Family
Chromosomal abnormalities are major causes of infertility, miscarriage and birth of handicapped progeny. In human live births, the prevalence of a chromosome aberration is ?0.5% and, of these, 0.1–0.3% correspond to structural chromosome rearrangements such as translocations, inversions, insertions and deletions .Our proband is an infant who had died 4 hours after birth due to a variety of abno...
متن کاملPrader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) — Diagnosis and Treatment
Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is an unusual, rare complex autosomal neurodevelopmental disease resulting from genomic imprinting and uniparental disomy of maternal chromosome 15 with a simultaneous functional loss of the parental part 15q11.2-q13. This article briefly elucidates the phenomenon of genomic imprinting, focuses on the diverse clinical features of PWS and concludes with the management...
